Panigyria, generally
A panigyri is a local celebration built around a church's name-day — typically an evening service followed by food, wine and music in the village square, open to anyone rather than a ticketed event. These aren't heavily promoted to tourists, so keeping half an eye on local listings or asking at your accommodation during your stay is the most reliable way to catch one.
Ifestia (Volcano Festival)
Held in Fira in late summer, this festival commemorates the island's volcanic history with a re-enactment of an eruption over the caldera — fireworks launched from boats on the water — alongside music and food in the town. Timing varies year to year; check locally close to your travel dates if this is a priority.
