Firostefani: the quiet middle ground between Fira and Imerovigli

Same caldera views as its two more famous neighbours, with a fraction of the foot traffic.

3 min read Places & villages

Firostefani sits directly between Fira and Imerovigli on the caldera rim — close enough to Fira to walk in ten to fifteen minutes, but with a noticeably calmer, more residential feel once you're there. It's easy to overlook precisely because it doesn't have a headline landmark like Oia's castle or Imerovigli's Skaros Rock, which is part of its appeal.

Why it's worth a stop, or a stay

The caldera path passes directly through Firostefani, and this stretch is a favourite among locals for exactly the reason visitors flock to Oia — the same dramatic cliff-and-sea view, with a fraction of the crowd. It has a small cluster of caldera-view hotels at generally lower prices than equivalent rooms in Oia or central Fira, making it a reasonable middle-ground base; see our where to stay guide.

Getting around

Walking distance to Fira's bus station and shops means you get much of Fira's convenience without its density. It's an easy add-on to the Fira-to-Oia caldera walk rather than a separate destination.
