Red Beach sits near Akrotiri on the island's southern tip, framed by tall cliffs of dark red and black volcanic rock. It's compact, striking, and one of the most-photographed spots on the island — which also means it's one of the most crowded by mid-morning in peak season.
Getting there
A short, uneven footpath connects the car park near Akrotiri to the beach itself — sturdy sandals or shoes make this considerably easier than flip-flops. Small boats also run to Red Beach from the old port at Akrotiri village for those who'd rather skip the walk.
When to go
Arrive before 10am or after 5pm in July and August if you want space to actually enjoy it — by midday the beach's small footprint fills up quickly, and the cliffs offer little shade. Outside peak summer, it's noticeably calmer at any time of day.
