Yoga retreats and wellness on Santorini

A genuinely growing scene, helped by the island's natural light, volcanic landscape and abundance of clifftop terraces.

3 min read Things to do

Santorini has developed a real wellness tourism sector in the last decade — partly because the landscape (clifftop terraces, volcanic drama, extraordinary light) is genuinely conducive to that style of travel, and partly because the island's shoulder season (April–May, late September–October) aligns well with the quieter, retreat-focused pace that wellness tourism tends to prefer.

What's on offer

Yoga and meditation retreats, typically multi-day residential programmes at private villas or boutique hotels with caldera views, are the most common format — some specialist retreat operators run dedicated programmes with visiting teachers, others are offered by larger hotels as add-on programming. Day classes (single sessions open to non-guests) are also available at several properties, particularly in Oia and Imerovigli.

Spa and thermal experiences

A number of larger hotels have proper spa facilities with treatments drawing loosely on the island's volcanic character — mineral-infused treatments, hot-spring-inspired soaks. The actual volcanic hot springs in the caldera (see our caldera swimming guide) are the more raw, outdoor version of the same instinct.

Best timing

Shoulder season genuinely suits wellness travel here — cooler than July–August for outdoor yoga, less crowded, and the island's famous light is arguably softer and more beautiful in May and September than in high summer.
