Budget places to stay that don't feel like a compromise

You don't need a caldera view to enjoy Santorini — here's where value actually holds up.

4 min read Where to stay

Away from the caldera rim, Santorini has a wide range of simple, well-run guesthouses and small hotels at a fraction of Oia or Imerovigli's prices — you just won't wake up looking at the volcano.

Where value is strongest

Kamari, Perissa and Perivolos have the largest supply of budget-friendly rooms, many close enough to walk to the beach. Inland, Pyrgos and Megalochori offer a quieter, more local alternative at similarly modest prices, with a rental car making up for the lack of a beachfront location.

What you're trading off

Mainly the view, and in some cases a bit more distance from the caldera villages — a bus ride or short drive rather than a walk. Room quality, cleanliness and service at well-reviewed budget properties are often perfectly comparable to pricier options; you're specifically paying the caldera-view hotels for the view and the cave-suite architecture, not for a better night's sleep.

Our takeBook a budget base for most of your stay, and treat yourself to one night in a caldera-view room in Oia or Imerovigli if the splurge matters to you — you get the experience without paying peak rates for the whole trip.
